The third annual
Chelsea Fringe Henley
festival
, featuring a floral flotilla on the
Thames, took place in May and June.
This is an alternative garden festival that is
endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society and
promotes an inclusive approach to flowers,
gardens and gardening and runs alongside the
Chelsea Flower Show.

The
Henley Food & Drink Festival
will be
held on September 16 and 17.
This new two-day event will showcase local
producers, restaurants and breweries.
There will be live talks, demonstrations and
exhibitions at various town centre venues,
including the town hall, King’s Arms Barn and
the Old Fire Station Gallery while a marquee will
be installed in Falaise Square.
Chefs supporting the event include Paul
Clerehugh, of the Crooked Billet in Stoke Row,
and Ryan Simpson and Liam Trotman, of Orwells
in Shiplake.

Henley on Food
, a food and literature festival,
took place for the first time at Shiplake College in
2016.
The event featured talks, interactive cookery
demonstrations, wine tastings and food-inspired
activities for children.
Chef and TV presenter John Torode and former
Great British Bake Off
winner Frances Quinn were
among those who appeared.

The
Woodcote Rally
takes place each July. This
is an annual gathering of veteran and vintage
transport, including steam engines, traction
engines, tractors, vintage cars and bikes.
Since the first rally in 1964, the event has raised
more than £500,000 for local charities and good
causes.

The
Henley Christmas Festival
takes place
on the first Friday in December and includes
late-night shopping, fairground rides, stalls,
carol singing, a children’s procession and the
Christmas tree lights switch-on ceremony.

The eighth
Regatta for the Disabled
took
place at Phyllis Court Club in Henley on
Saturday, September 2.
This gives children and adults with a disability a
chance to enjoy a range of land and river-based
activities not normally available to them,
including river trips, dragon boat racing and a
climbing wall that takes wheelchairs.
The event is aimed at families and other
attractions include animals to pet, pony rides,
rowing machines and live music.

Other events include a number of open water
swims on the River Thames.
The
Henley Classic swim
is a 2.1km
endurance race which takes place on the Henley
Royal Regatta course very early on the Sunday
before the start of the regatta in June.
The
Henley Mile
, now in its fifth year, is a
1.6km swim held on the regatta course a week
later.
Another open water event is the14km
Thames
Marathon
, previously known as the Bridge to
Bridge Race, from Henley to Marlow in August.
